Regular updates of sarcastic and irreverent nonsense.
Phew! After what seems like an eternity, my latest book is finally published! Yes! This is actually my very first novel, but the fifth book overall that I have written. The synposis is thus:
Look at the person sitting just across from you. It doesn’t matter whether they’re a loved one, a friend, or a complete stranger.
Now look at their face. Are they happy? Are they sad? Or are they angry? Can you even tell?
How well do you actually know the people closest to you?
Have you ever seen the real person that lies just underneath what you see…?
Thriller fans will be utterly thrilled, as it is a thriller story. If you are already a follower of this blog, then you get a free copy ‘cos you are special. If you are a reviewer of some kind, please help yourself to a free copy and do a giveaway of 10 copies if you so wish. Lastly, but most importantly, if you work for the British NHS (nurses, doctors, surgeons, support staff, etc.), you are also entitled to a free copy. Although I believe in the spirit of the NHS, the current UK government seems to be doing its level best to destroy it, so this is my way of trying to give something back and showing some support. Use the coupon code below to download the book, and feel free to share it around.
Thanks are owed to the lovely Chez Sasha for stuff about French people, and also to country girl Julie Rainey, comma chameleon Terry Tyler, book mentalist OCD Reader, Malibu advocate Melanie Cusick-Jones, and the blogless John Taylor for their immense help during the tortuous proof-reading stage.
Thanks also to the moderators of various groups over on Goodreads.
Recently these people have tagged me on their blogs – JR Barker, Karen Payze and Raebeth McGee
The book is available from Amazon US and Amazon UK to buy. Those wanting to get their mits on their free copy can get it from Smashwords, using the coupon code below.

Congratulations mon capitain!
Of course you have ruined my reading plans because now this book takes precedent 😀
Thank you, my dear Barkster!
The weather ruins the summer, and I ruin reading plans.
Weellll, I think I can live with it 😀
Congrats Michael! It sounds like a great story.
So when will you finally decide to make big money out of it?
With any luck, this one will garner me the riches that I so desire.
…and deserve ;).
Love the cover. The patterns on the glass play with your eyes if you gaze at it for too long and the figure appears to move. Scary. Congratulations on completing your debut novel.
Thank you Martin. I know what you mean about it moving, it’s as if the shadow starts creeping upwards.
Wow, congratulations Michael! I just downloaded the free copy and read read the first couple of pages, it’s great already, I’m intrigued! 🙂 I love the front cover as well. Three cheers for you.
Thank you, my dear Becky, you are charming and delightful as always.
Well done Cargers, the aftershave ad on the front page is awesome and I’ve snatched the kindle version 🙂
Thank you (I think), and thank you again.
Hope you enjoy it.
Once I’ve read it I’ll attempt to do a review of it on Dark Globe 🙂
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Congratulations. I am in a period of my life where the subject matter really hits home. I look forward in reading your debut novel and many more from you. Cheers.
Mr/Mrs anonymous, whoever you are, I hope you enjoy what you find.
Would there be a part for me in the film of the book?
Yup! You can be a copper, or a college girl; auditions are being held next week.
Yay! Well done Michael, I’m off to download it now 🙂
Please do!
Have done! It’s downloaded and I’m looking forward to reading it when my husband eventually gives me back my iPad (long story involving clumsy old me, a glass of water and the untimely death of his MacBook Pro) Massive congrats on publishing it, though; the reviews I’ve seen on Twitter etc so far are fantastic 🙂
Mate, no word of a lie, I’ve spent all day reading it and just this minute finished it. Bra-fucking-vo.
http://wp.me/p1XmhH-1Oc Review as promised.
Top stuff Mr Howorth!
Congrats! That’s awesome! You better celebrate tonight! Looking forward to reading it!
Thank you!
I celebrated by having an early night, and then having a coffee on the way to work.
*looks in awe* I want to be like you when I grow up.
How exciting! I love the premise. I’m expecting great things, Michael.
Well done.
Ooooooooh, the pressure is on!
NHS Employees Michael …. that sounds very intriguing indeed. I shall go and grab a copy while I can and let you know how it goes.
Go for it Linda. It beats doing some IT work…
I have to admit that anything beats doing some IT work which might come across as negative for your book but given that I’ve read your work before and done an interview with you will mean that I shall look forward to it with the greatest of pleasure (a bit tortuous I know but clients and my brain … you get the picture!)
I picked up a copy, but it’ll be awhile before I get to it. Don’t forget I have ‘Shades of Grey’ to read first. Real Life won’t stop interferring with my Reading Life. Grrr!
Real life, reading life, erotic reading life.
It’s hard being a voracious reader.
Just out of interest, have you actually downloaded Shades of Grey? I have actually updated it since first publishing it, so make sure you get the fresh one if/when you finally get round to it…!
I came here to tell you you’re a slacker who never writes anymore. I was going to barrage your page with nude photographs of husky males. Now I see you’ve written another book. Well done sir. I will try downloading my free copy on Wednesday when I’m on my home computer. Then I’ll fail and ask you for help on how to do it properly.
I always wondered why you didn’t make your books available in print form. Then I looked and the one I’m finishing up would cost $28 just to print up. Yeah, I’m really going to get someone to pay $35 for a book I wrote.
Any chance you take a break from the wackiness and write up a post helping those of us looking to self-publish? I’ve created my CreateASpace. After that I don’t know what to expect.
Yeah, it’s suddenly got harder for me to think up wacky stuff. I remember the good old days when I was doing it every day (oo-er).
To be honest, self-publishing is actually easier than you realise. Just sign up to that Smashwords site, and you can do it for free and even make stuff available for free. Once you feel more confident, you can then sign up to Amazon self-publishing (also free) and unleash it all.
I started reading through the Smashwords guide to formatting. Please tell me this was designed for people with no clue how to write a book. Seems like a whole new language to learn.
Oops. Forgot to comment earlier. Loved the book, of course, and can’t wait to read the next brilliant one.
-The Country Girl. 🙂
I am tempted to say ‘never again’, but I will no doubt start again soon…!
Awesome! Congratulations!
Cheers Smeltzy!
Wow! That’s fantastic, Michael!! Congratulations!! 🙂
(You know I’m sincere by the number of exclamation marks I’ve used. Nothing screams sincerity like punctuation).
Congratularions!! I will definitely pick it up. Even though I’m a fraidy cat and will probably have nightmares given that it’s a “thriller”… for you I will do it though!
You are the best!
There aren’t any mice in it, don’t worry.
